I read her words
and remembered my old friend
Sitting idly in my loft
Its been a while since the last day
I lifted the cover gently off her
And loving cleaned her with a cloth
I sat before her
and ran my fingers
adoringly upon the strings
I prayed once before I began
The gentle strains fill my home
My mother looks upon us in glee
My father stops his reading to look as well
I felt happy that I could still play
And I thank the words
That brought me to this…

Firstly, thank u Purple Drizzle for ur poem ‘The Guitar Weeps’…it reminded me of my veena(an indian classical instrument) and i played it for the first time in over 3 years….it was like meeting a long lost friend…thank u so much:)

Musicians have so much sentiment attached to their instruments. The veena is a very beautiful instrument, though I am not really into Indian classical music. I am fond of the sitar too.

Beautiful tribute to your veena. I’ve never heard one play but I’m sure the notes that filled the air were as sweet to your parents as they were to you. Every time I pick up my flute and play a few notes my mother always has something to say. Nothing bad, it’s just one of those things that you can’t let go without mentioning something. I bet she felt great in your hands.

wonderful poem. you can play veena? thats great! I love this instrument. have heard a few programs, its sound is really marvelous. but playing it is very, very tough. may music pour down your fingers forever.
